A pennant in front, a banner behind
The pennant printed on the chest is not an athlete’s object. It belongs to the stands: the felt triangle you wave from the terraces, pin to a bedroom wall, bring home from an away trip. It says you support, not that you play.
The back says the opposite. The mascot stands on a line, head shaved, plasters across the face, a tooth missing, belt tied. It is not a logo, it is a portrait, and there is nothing heroic about it: this is someone coming off a hard session and grinning anyway.
Between the two, the same person. Supporter in front, practitioner behind. It is the only model in the range built on that switch.
SINCE 2K13
The year the brand started, written the way the 2000s wrote it, with a K standing in for the thousand. A graphic detail, not a claim.
The flag
Horizontal stripes, and in place of the stars, the ATHOM emblem repeated in a grid. The composition borrows from flags the one thing flags do well: gathering people under a single sign. Here the sign belongs to no country, it belongs to whoever steps on the mat.
The black one, in practice
On black, the print is entirely white. It is the largest area of ink in the range, and you feel it on the first wear: the back sits slightly stiffer than bare fabric, across a zone running from the neck to the bottom of the shoulder blades. That stiffness goes after three or four washes, as the ink softens and settles into the knit.
It is also the model where washing inside out matters most. On a small mark, friction against the drum is trivial. Here the whole back rubs on every rotation, cycle after cycle. Turning the shirt inside out easily doubles the life of the design, and it costs nothing.
One last point about large solids: do not always store it folded along the same line of the print. A crease that lands on the same millimetre over and over eventually marks the ink, while a hung shirt or one folded differently never does.
In wear, this is the shirt people see from behind. In a gym you move, you turn, you sit facing the wall during explanations. This model is made for those moments, and it is wasted under a jacket. For layering, the Team model is the better call.
The cut
Straight, crew neck, sleeve to mid-bicep. With the back fully occupied by the print, the cut matters more here than on the other models: too large and the design wrinkles between the shoulder blades, too tight and it stretches.
Take your usual size. If you are unsure, the larger one, since the cotton mostly loses length on the first wash.
