Athletes on the Mat customer reviews

We collect two kinds of reviews. Reviews of ATHOM as a merchant, hosted by Trustpilot, an independent organisation. And reviews of each product, submitted by our customers and published on our product pages. This page presents both, and explains at the end how we collect, check and publish them.

These reviews cover the shopping experience as a whole: ordering, delivery, size exchanges, how quickly we respond. They are collected, checked and hosted by Trustpilot, a company independent of ATHOM. We can neither alter them nor refuse their publication.

Reviews of our products

These reviews cover a specific product: the cut of a gi, how a belt holds, the weight of a fabric. They are submitted by customers who bought the product on our site, and published here as well as on the relevant product page.

Our review publication rules

This section fulfils the information obligations laid down by article L. 111-7-2 du Code de la consommation (French Consumer Code) and its implementing articles D. 111-9 to D. 111-12. It concerns the product reviews published on our site. Reviews posted on Trustpilot are governed by that platform’s own rules.

1. Who can submit a review

Only customers who have placed an order on www.athletesonthemat.com can submit a review of a product. We accept no review from a person who has not bought the product concerned.

Every published review is linked to a real order. The “Verified purchase” label shown beneath a review means we were able to establish that link in our order system.

2. How we collect reviews

Twenty-one days after your order moves to “Completed” status, we send you an email inviting you to review the products you ordered. That delay is deliberately long: it gives you time to receive the parcel, wash your gi and train in it, so that your review reflects real use.

Only one invitation is sent per order. The link it contains stays valid for three months. If you would rather not receive these invitations, write to us at contact@athletesonthemat.com and we will remove you from these mailings.

You can also submit a review at any time from the page of a product you have bought, without waiting for our invitation.

3. Is there anything in return

No. We offer no discount, no promotional code, no gift and no benefit of any kind in exchange for submitting a review. A positive review earns you nothing more than a negative one.

We buy no reviews and use no review-writing service provider.

4. Our checking procedure

All reviews are checked before publication. This check is manual and happens at three points.

At collection. The invitation to submit a review is sent only to customers whose order has been delivered. The submission link is personal and tied to a specific order, which prevents reviews being submitted by anyone who has not bought the product.

At moderation. Every review is read by a member of our team before going live. That reading relates only to compliance with the rules set out in point 5. It never relates to whether the review is favourable or unfavourable. We never alter the content of a review, neither its text nor its rating. A review is either published as it stands or refused.

At publication. All compliant reviews are published, whatever rating they give. We do not filter out negative reviews and we do not push them to the bottom of the list. The average rating shown on a product page is calculated across all reviews published for that product, with no exclusions.

5. Grounds for refusing publication

A review may be refused on one of the following grounds, and on those grounds only:

• it contains insulting, defamatory, racist, sexist or hateful statements, or statements inciting violence;
• it contains personal data concerning a third party, or your own contact details (address, telephone number, email);
• it does not relate to the product bought or to the shopping experience, for example an advertising message or unrelated content;
• it relates exclusively to a delivery incident attributable to the carrier, in which case we reply to you directly to deal with the problem;
• it contains a link to a third-party site or an attempt to divert customers;
• it infringes an intellectual property right;
• the photograph or video attached is unrelated to the product, or shows an identifiable person who has not consented to its publication.

A low rating, harsh criticism or disagreement with us is never a ground for refusal.

When we refuse to publish a review, we inform its author by email stating the reason for the refusal, in accordance with article D. 111-12 du Code de la consommation (French Consumer Code).

6. Publication and retention periods

Maximum time to publish after a review is received	5 business days

After five years, a review is removed from the site. We consider that beyond that period a review no longer gives a faithful picture of a product whose manufacture or materials may have changed.

7. Dates displayed

Every published review carries two dates:

• the publication date, which is the date the review went live on our site;
• the date of the shopping experience, which is the date of the order the review relates to.

For a few reviews submitted before our current system was put in place, the date of the shopping experience could not be reconstructed with certainty. In those cases it is not displayed, rather than showing an approximate date.

Where a review has been edited by its author, the update date is shown.

8. How reviews are ordered

By default, reviews are ordered from the most recent to the oldest. You can change this order directly from the product page and choose to show the highest-rated or the lowest-rated reviews first.

No ordering depends on any commercial consideration or on any criterion that favours positive reviews.

9. Editing or deleting your review

You can ask for your review to be edited or deleted at any time by writing to contact@athletesonthemat.com from the email address used for your order. We handle these requests within 5 business days.

An edited review goes through the same check as an initial review and carries its update date.

10. Contacting the author of a review

We never publish the contact details of review authors. Reviews are signed with the first name and the initial of the surname.

If you wish to get in touch with the author of a review, write to us at contact@athletesonthemat.com, specifying the review concerned and the reason for your request. We will pass your message on to its author, who remains free to reply or not. Under no circumstances do we disclose their contact details without their prior agreement.

11. Reporting a review

If you believe a published review is false, misleading or contrary to the rules set out in point 5, report it to contact@athletesonthemat.com, stating the product concerned, the review in question and the grounds for your report.

Reporting is free of charge. We acknowledge receipt within 5 business days and tell you what action has been taken. Any review whose authenticity cannot be established is removed.

12. Our right of reply

We reserve the option of replying publicly to a review, beneath it. Our reply is identified as coming from ATHOM. It alters neither the text nor the rating of the original review.

13. Personal data

Product reviews are hosted on our own servers. We do not pass them on to any third-party online review platform. Merchant reviews posted on Trustpilot, on the other hand, are hosted by that company, which acts as controller of its own processing; its privacy policy can be viewed at trustpilot.com.

The data processed when we collect product reviews is your email address, your first name, the initial of your surname and the content of your review. The data controller is MOTHA, 39 rue Danièle Casanova, 91700 Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois, France. The legal basis for sending the invitation is our legitimate interest in gathering your assessment of a product you have bought; the legal basis for publishing your review is your consent, evidenced by your voluntary submission of that review.

We update this page whenever our review collection or checking procedure changes, and show the date of the last change at the top of the document.
