A short cut, a fabric that does not hold sweat, two quiet grey-on-black prints. Built for grappling, no-gi jiu-jitsu and MMA.

What the built-in liner changes

Most people wear grappling shorts over a separate pair of compression shorts. Two garments, two washes, two sizes to keep track of, and a layer of fabric that rolls up the thigh on the first inversion.

Here the liner is stitched inside the shell. It holds the thighs, stops the shorts riding up from guard, and removes the awkward moment of rearranging yourself between rounds. You pull on one piece and forget about it.

There is a second, less obvious effect. The outer shell can be cut wider and shorter, because coverage is handled by the liner. That is where the freedom of movement comes from in open guard, in triangles and on stand-ups.

No pockets, by design

A pocket on grappling shorts is not a styling detail, it is a hazard. A finger or a toe catches in it during a transition and you spend six weeks in a splint. That is exactly why federations ban them.

This model has no opening, no buttons, no zip, no metal or plastic hardware of any kind. The only adjustment is the fabric drawcord at the waist.

Hardcore grappling shorts and IBJJF rules

IBJJF no-gi rules set four conditions for competition shorts: primarily black, white, or black and white; no pockets, or pockets stitched completely shut; no metal or plastic that could injure an opponent; and a length reaching at least halfway down the thigh, no more than 15 cm from the knee.

These shorts meet the first three without argument. On the fourth, the length, check the measurement for your size in the chart before taking them to an IBJJF event: this is a short cut, designed for training. The rulebook also specifies that any elastic layer worn underneath must be black.

For everyday training, open mats and events that do not run a uniform check, none of those reservations apply.

The print

Two prints, both grey on black, deliberately understated. On the front, a fist in a shield above the word PROTEST. On the back, a cross built from the letters H, A, C and X. Nothing fluorescent, no sponsor logos, nothing that ages badly.

Hardcore grappling shorts in black, with a built-in compression liner and no pockets at all.
