Our martial art has certain rules and one of the first is the colour of your BJJ belt.<\/span><\/p>\n

It represents your dedication, your involvement and your time spent on the mat.<\/span><\/p>\n

It comes in different colours depending on the grade given to you by your professor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some historical points on the evolution of belts in BJJ<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was created in Japan several decades ago. In the early twentieth century, Japanese migrated to Brazil to establish Japanese concessions. In recognition of the dedication of some Brazilians (including the Gracie Family), the Japanese chose to introduce and train them in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Brazilians later modified it to suit their body shape until it became the form we know today: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). <\/span><\/p>\n

With this belt, we have chosen to pay tribute to the history of our martial art with this embroidery in Japanese lettering.<\/span><\/p>\n

t should be noted that at the beginning of the twentieth century, there were only two belts available: the white and the blue. This is why you often find pictures of Helio Gracie with a blue Brazilian Jiu Jitsu belt in the 1960s\/1970s.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Subsequently, and in view of the popularity of the practitioners, the Gracie family<\/a> has therefore created Brazilian Jiu Jitsu belts of different colours up to the black belt (and even beyond with the red belt) in order to separate beginners, experienced practitioners, competitors, instructors and masters: this is how the famous black stripe that you will find on our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu belts came about, in order to affix the white bars that reward your work and your progress<\/span><\/p>\n
